Why is China extremely cruel to animals?!!?

I agree, I have never seen such cruelty as in China and to be honest Korea, Japan and Vietnam aren't much better either. As a vegetarian I found the treatment of animals here appalling and have heard from meat eaters that the animal flesh here tastes pretty dreadful too probably due to the bad health and treatment of the animal. There is a saying by Mahatma Gandhi that explains a lot: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” i think the Chinese could learn from this!
